Self-Portrait Inspiration

The artist that I was really drawn to was Neil Shigley. The quote that really inspired me was "In my portrait work, my focus is to capture the likeness of an individual by using descriptive marks to describe how light hits the forms of the face." I really relate to this style of drawing.  I'm not very comfortable with 2D so using lines to build a portrait helps me figure out how areas are shaped, so I basically draw like I sculpt.

Reading discussion

I chose the quote,"Drawing is the launguage best suited to the notions of revelation and liberation; in its immediacy and its capacity for secrecy (a drawing can be easily rolled or folded up and hidden) it is the perfect medium to convey the experience and the voice of the other---of women, children, the autodidact, the slave, the prisoner, the oppressed." This really caught my attention, It's a way of expressing something so intamint and personal. Using this as a medium can create such wonderful pieces of art.
Frida Kahlo's artwork was focused on equlity amoung the sexes. Her artwork showed her view on this subject.
